Begin with an end in mind

"Begin with an end in mind", from Steven Covey's 7 Habits of Effective People. I first read that book 10 years ago.
I had been invited to attend a weeklong-training. With tons of work behind me, I was really reluctant to go thinking that I've gone through the same trainings in the past.
After the introductions and all, the speaker said 'Begin with an end in mind. and I mean it in the literal sense of the word. Start from the end, and end it at the start.' How crazy this guy is! Does he know what he's talking about? All the more I was convinced that I was just wasting my time. But then as we moved on I was beginning to appreciate the logic. I was able to slowly open up my mind and consider starting from the end and ending at the start. I realized that many times, not just in my work I've always focused on the current situations, current dilemmas and instead of focusing on the objectives I am faced with a blank wall which becomes my roadblock and it stops me from proceeding. If you know that behind the wall lies the path to your goal, then you wouldn't have to worry about the rest. You can only focus on the wall facing you at the moment. It makes sense.
