The Group Dinner
The group had a spur of the moment thing and went to a Japanese restaurant for dinner. We were Filipino, Japanese, Croatian, Taiwanese, British, Irish and French, an interesting mixture of nationalities.
The Charming Frenchman
Sakuma-san ordered 2 bottles of hot 'sake' (Japanese rice wine) and immediately we engaged into a drinking spree. Greg with his typical British cracks would keep the table alive. Leron, a new discovery was totally wacky, imitating an English-accent and trying to learn Japanese words and would use them to the restaurant staff. He dared Julie (Taiwanese) to spend 8 minutes with him and he can make her say 'I love you!'.
Mariana, the Croatian interrupted and said, 'beware of French and Italians!'. Leron would then say that he is an all-talk totally shy guy. Nobody would believe. 'Come on, you're French and you're a Salesman'. We were making fond of him but he was OK. Occasionally, he would bully Donal (Irish) that between the Irish and French, the French always win. Everybody had such a great time.
If Leron indeed represent the typical French, I would agree that they're charming and fun-loving which means I also take Mariana's caution seriously!
Cultural Diversity
The group also talked about each country's lifestyle, family life and work ethics. We all acknowledged that we have different points of view because each of us has our own culture and personal values.
Life is simply living the best of what we have and nights for hot 'sake', 'kanpai' and goodwill ~ regardless of skin color.
