The Passing Of Friends
I was reading my friend Oggie's blog, stunned at what was written. His climb buddy passed away in his pursuit of his heart's desire, that is climbing. Then I remember Rhia, the naughtiest, humblest, nicest, sexy and funny fellow household in Singles For Christ. She loved diving. And her love for diving caused her her life.
When Oggie said he spent time visiting wake and attending mass, I also remember a very poignant and probably one very touching moment in my life. Rhia's funeral. Rhia's body was swept by the Puerto Galera current and rumors (yes, the papers were saying) have it that the family didn't want Rhia's friends to see her bruised body and crashed head. It was a very clear day at the Forbes. Her family and were friends were smiling and remembering the old, naughty Rhia. I can imagine Rhia was smiling back at us in heaven and would have been very proud of us.
The speeches finished and we were ready to take Rhia to her long and peaceful rest, when her family sent out a Virgin Mary Prayer and a note from Rhia herself at the back, it says:
When the time comes that I leave this world behind,
If I had made at least one soul smiled
Then I would have fulfilled my purpose.
Rhia.
My cheeks warmed and I couldn't help the tears fall down my eyes. I miss her. I was suppose to meet her the week before she died but I begged off because I was 'tamad' to go over her house.
But I bet Rhia doesn't mind at all.
Her purpose was fulfilled...not with one soul but with all the people whose lives she's touched.
Thanks for visiting!
